Review: Angel Fantasm EDP by Mugler
I recently tried Mugler’s Angel Fantasm which they released last year. From researching online, there were multiple reviews which spoke highly of this fragrance. I saw online that people explained that it smelled of pina colada and that the coconut notes were creamy. This immediately excited me as coconut based fragrances are some of my favourite types of scents, such as Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder, Crystal Noir by Versace and even another Mugler fragrance; Alien Goddess.
Unfortunately, I personally did not fall in love with this fragrance as I had anticipated. There is a creamy base in the scent but also this green earthiness which I felt drew a little away from the gourmand experience which I had imagined in my head. The top note of pineapple with bergamot is extremely overpowering. It smelt more floral than gourmand and the pineapple was extremely sour and sweet in an intense and almost artificial way. It smelt more so like a pineapple ice pop than the creaminess which I had been expecting. The sour, sweet smell had lasted so long that I failed to pick up or at least enjoy the coconut and vanilla notes which would help soothe and emulsify the smell. I could reach the smell of coconut within but it felt seperated from this sour kick and not blended together in my experience of the perfume on my skin. It didn’t have a creaminess effect on my skin, it smelt very intoxicatingly sweet but with this sickly artificial tang to it. It was very intense of pineapple, if that is what you are more interested in, rather than a creamy but subtle citrus scent which I would have preferred. The patchouli earthiness felt too far removed than the rest of the perceived intention of the fragrance. It leaned more towards floral fruity with the bergamot and pineapple than it did the gourmand which I expected due to Mugler’s Alien range of fragrances such as Alien Goddess.
However, I will admire the longevity of the scent. I had sprayed it on my wrist and it was an intense smell which I could smell in the air without having to lift my wrist to my nose. It filled my car with its scent throughout the day and I could still smell the fragrance on my wrist as I went to bed, regardless of washing my wrist to try wear down the scent which had been quite overpowering for my senses and after my evening shower also. I had even gotten into my car the next morning and could smell Angel Fantasm still for the entirety of the journey. The longevity of Mugler fragrances would be one of the most impressive lasting times that I have experienced so far, on the same level as Creed fragrances.
I find myself being more of a Mugler Alien fan than a Mugler Angel fan, but I am interested to try more of the Angel range to see if this sweet, sickly, intense aroma is typical of the Angel range. I would have loved to see a Mugler Alien ‘Fantasm’ as I felt the indulgent, creaminess and slightly warm woodiness of Alien and Alien Goddess would’ve been a fantastic companion for this ‘pina colada’ take.
What Angel fragrance should I try next? What did you think of Angel Fantasm if you have tried it?
